Care is to be taken when swimming in any waters around Nusa Penida. Crystal Bay, Ped Village and Toyapakeh beaches are the safest to swim. The Island at Crystal Bay should be avoided as whirlpools and down-currents are common around the island and especially to the right.
Other beaches including Angels Billabong, Atuh Beach and Kelingking should be approached by checking the conditions first with your guide or a local stall-holder.
Bicycles area available to rent at Penida Colada Lounge Bar in Ped Village. Most of the roads on the north coast of the Island between Toyapakeh and Sampalan are flat and well surfaced. This is a great way to see the island at your own pace. But if you venture further up into the hills be prepared for hairpin turns, loose gravel and degraded shoulders in places.
The road to Angel's Billabong and Broken Bay is due to be sealed in 2018, but for now this road is near impossible to navigate by pushbike and only a little easier by scooter.
Scooters are widely available for rent and are the main form of transport around the island. Scooter hire includes fuel. For those not comfortable driving themselves, willing locals are also more than happy to transport you on the back of their motorbike for a fee.
In one day, you could easily tour the island and cross over to the smaller island of Nusa Ceningan.
